I said my class would be about race in the world of Hispanic letters, 1486-2014, and I should think about what I really want to read.
We could consider:
2014. Race and Racisms: A Critical Approach Oxford University Press: New York. (Golash-Boza)
1987. José Piedra, and more about Nebrija (race, grammar, and the letter)
1925. La raza cósmica; also Gamio, Forjando patria
Joshua Goode, Joshua Lund, Cecilia Valdés, Martí, Anzaldúa (she fits in well to race and the letter); use the Vallejo poem “y lábrase la raza en mi palabra” and the Vasconcelos phrase “por mi raza hablará el espíritu”
There is much else, of course; the question is how to shape this and keep it the right size.
